When I Am Among The Trees

by Susie Borchardt on April 5, 2012

When I am among the trees,

especially the willows and the honey locust,

especially the beech, the oaks and the pines,

they give off such hints of gladness.

I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,

in which I have goodness, and discernment,

and never hurry through the world

but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves

and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,

“and you too have come

into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled

with light, and to shine.”

 Tiny Devotions

As a yogini, I’m a firm believer that you can never own enough mala’s. These beautifully crafted necklaces & bracelets infuse your day with more light, healing, and blessings. The masterminds behind the creations too are equally gorgeous and inspiring (take a peek at their blog for an even bigger dose of inspiration).

 LUSH

One of my all time favorite spots for fresh handmade bath cosmetics. I’m literally head-over-heels for the Godiva solid shampoo bar. The smell alone is worth the price and it lasts (when cared for properly) way longer than any of the traditional bottled products.

Being a dedicated lover of sweets these adorable cupcakes alway hit the spot. Whenever the chance arises, I stop in for one at their Georgetown shop (OK..usually two & one for Gizmo). My favorites are the black&white cupcake and the german chocolate cake. Gizmo loves the vanilla doggie cupcake. Bon Appètit!

Heaven & Hell

March 20, 2012

A big, tough samurai once went to see a little monk. “Monk,” he said, in a voice accustomed to instant obedience, “teach me about heaven and hell!”  The monk looked up at this mighty warrior and replied with utter disdain, “Teach you about heaven and hell? I couldn’t teach you about anything. You’re dirty. You [...]

Daily Reflection

March 18, 2012

Pema Chödrön has gifted the world with numerous insightful works of literature. Of all these, the collection of meditations “Comfortable with Uncertainty” resonates deepest with me. Composed of 108 delightful teachings (just as the mala is created with 108 beads) this book is one that can easily be referenced to time and time again. Sadly [...]

Year of the Dragon

January 23, 2012

Partnered with the au courant air of January, the Chinese Year of the Dragon is now too underway. Honoring the dragons fierce and autonomous persona, I began this week by challenging myself to shake up my typical Monday routine. Despite the fog drenched weather, I ventured with an umbrella-in-hand to the cobblestone sidewalks of Georgetown. Catching up [...]

Waking Up

January 4, 2012

Breaking from habits that no longer positively serve us is perhaps one of the most difficult battles we face. Whenever I find myself struggling more than blissfully engaging in my day, I always seek refuge in the wise quote below. Shine Bright this 2012

January 3, 2012

Resolutions are a blast to create. Each year I’ve begun by jotting down a list of insightful developments I hope to manifest in my life before the year is through.  Unfortunately, like many others, the majority of these resolutions fall to the wayside as my old habits creep back in. Though I had started with such beautiful [...]
